2 Old Fashioned Recipes - Muddled & SimplyGala

Old Fashioned Cocktail

The Old Fashioned Cocktail has always been one of my favorites, it is also one of the oldest cocktails around.  Originally called a Whisky Cocktail, that name changed over time to Old Fashioned Whisky Cocktail, to the current name, of just Old Fashioned.  It is a stirred cocktail, with just a few ingredients that really highlight and elevate whisky without overpowering the taste.

When I was younger and didn't have fancy bar tools (or many glasses!) I liked it because you build the drink right in the glass you are going to drink it in!  Doesn't get any easier than that.  Actually, it does with SimplyGala Old Fashioned Syrup, but more on that later!

When I started making this drink, I always kept sugar cubes in the house to make it, now I use syrup instead.  The classic recipe would use a teaspoon of simple syrup in place of the sugar cube, but it is also fun to swap that for a flavored syrup, cinnamon is my current favorite.

Muddled Recipe

Ingredients:

2oz Bourbon or Rye
2 dashes of Angostura® Bitters
1 sugar cube, or 1 tsp simple syrup
Orange slice
good quality maraschino cherry

Add all items to rocks glass.  Muddle.  Remove orange peel if you like.  Top with ice to 3/4 full and enjoy.

SimplyGala Recipe

Ingredients:

.5oz SimplyGala Old Fashioned Syrup
2oz Bourbon or Rye

Add all ingredients to rocks glass.  Stir.  Top with ice to 3/4 full and enjoy.

Garnish either or both with an orange slice for an extra sense experience.
